Spirit, soul and mind.Spirit, soul and body.

In a congregation of many, they were always the congregation of a few.

On days when they gathered in a name, he always showed up for the few who came to the pews with spirit, soul and mind.

This is the tale of your story as told by McOwen.

“Sabbath days, days of rest and prayer to honour your duty of multiplication and reverence. It happened on such sabbath days.

Intact, did you come with spirit, soul and body. Carefully, were you able to mind pick a spot at the pew. In respect of those who arrived before you, a rapid bow of head and sign of the cross swept over your chest.

Candlelights flickered, casting shadows over bodies in order to dehumanise the experience of a holy gathering.

Remember, you came intact with spirit, soul and body. So, when it was time for the priest to grace the pulpit with a transformation into an altar, you did not need to adjust your stance, nor confirm that your soul was present for the gathering.

Nor, did you need to reaffirm that your spirit was still holy.

Your first, second and third eyes were planted on the priest. With every word of scripture your spirit made a yearning, begging for your soul to make your mind understand. So that you may in turn beg the priest to; “I pray thee, preach on.”

For every moment that passed by, for every miracle of how water transformed into wine, for the understanding of things unfathomable to the bare mind, your body reclined, so to give way to the upliftment of your spirit and soul. And when your body could not take it anymore, you planted knees to the ground, stretched out arms to the sky, let glistening tears to flow, and spoke out in the language of your spirit.

That was a death.

A quick decomposition of your flesh. Flesh retiring to the Earth. Spirit taking your soul away. Letting your body rot away.

How many times, I ask, has your body died?”
